The Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, took a familiarisation visit to McDan Aviation to gather firsthand information on the confusion between the Aviation and Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
The outgoing Managing Director of GACL, Mr. Yaw Kwakwa who led the Committee on the tour of the facility observed that McDan Aviation has so far satisfied the physical and structural requirements needed to operate private jet services.
He also revealed that the Ghana Airport has renewed McDan's private jet license for another 90 days.
The visit comes after GACL ordered the suspension of the use of Terminal 1 of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) by McDan Aviation after it was accused of breaching the laid down procedures after procuring its license to operate in 2019.
After the suspension, the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament demanded that the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) furnish it with details of the agreement between McDan Aviation and GACL within a week, hence the visit to the Aviation on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has directed the Ghana Airports Company’s board to sack Managing Director, Yaw Kwakwa.
In a letter dated February 4, 2022, to the Company’s Board Chair, Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah said “per a letter dated on January 31, 2022,” the President has directed the sacking of Mr. Kwakwa.
