A counsellor at the Royal House Chapel has advised against a lengthy courtship period before marriage.
Rev Eddie Eyison speaking on Joy Primes’ Changes on the topic ‘How to prepare myself for marriage’, said, “I see long courtships as grounds to learn how to divorce.”
He stated that people who enter long-term courtships tend to leave their supposed partners if they do not exhibit the desired behaviour.
He added that waiting too long demonstrates the unpreparedness of the person involved, stressing “you shouldn’t have even gone into it.”
“So already you’ve learnt how to do it already so if you move into it new things are coming ….” This becomes grounds for a breakup.
He explained that courting for six months to a year is enough time to get to know one's partner and decide whether or not to tie the knot.
“I have seen people who are leaving in a relationship; they say they have been in a relationship for 10 years its bad,” he gave an instance.
He, therefore, advised individuals to avoid entering into relationships or courting if they are not ready to settle down.
Speaking on the same show, Rev. Charlotte Oduro also advised women to desist from the act of explaining every bit of their past relationships to the present partners.
She said it is customary to reveal certain things about the past relationship when it pops up in a conversation but shouldn’t be an everyday chat.
“There is no need for that: when we are walking together, and something pops up, we can talk about it but not just sit there and start discussing the people you have dated before. So why are we visiting the past?” She answered the host, Roselyn Felli with a question.
“If you want to know the person, then build the future together. The past is irrelevant because there are some people; if you tell them about the past relationship, you lose them because they are not matured enough to handle it,” she added.
