On Wednesday, March 2, the Police disclosed that the masked armed robbers who subjected over 40 passengers en route to Kumasi from Takoradi in the Western Region to torture have been arrested.
These masked men are said to have forced their victims to pray for them after robbing them.
They had been on the run since committing the crime on Monday, February 21, until Wednesday, March 2.
The Police in a statement signed by Director-General, Public Affairs, DCOP Kwesi Ofori detailed how the Service apprehended the perpetrators.
According to the Police, its officers encountered the group of five near Bekwai in the Ashanti Region.
They had blocked the road from Abodom-Koniyaw with wooden logs ready to rob some market women.

A shootout ensued between the two parties and in the process, two of the robbers were shot dead. Two others sustained gunshot wounds.
They managed to escape from the scene. However, the fifth member was arrested.
The Police are currently in pursuit of the two injured suspects. Residents of the surrounding communities and medical facilities have been urged to assist with investigations by being "on the lookout for suspicious persons and inform the police for further action."

Meanwhile, the Police has indicated that exhibits retrieved from the scene of Monday's events include "a Mazda mini bus with registration number AK 179 19, face masks, cutlasses, three pump action guns all loaded with AAA live ammunitions and 30 spare AAA ammunitions."
