An ardent listener of Joy FM has made a clarion call to the leaders of the country to work towards improving the living conditions of the citizenry.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, the caller, K.B, who called from Kpong, bemoaned what he said are failed systems in the country.
"Nothing is working in Kpong. Nothing is working in Ghana and in all the 16 regions. If Ghana were human, it would be in coma by now," he said.
His comment was in reaction to a question posed by the hosts of the show, as to whether Ghana is a better nation than we were a decade ago, or the state is currently living on past glories?
Most of the callers were emphatic that things are not good now compared to previous years.
K.B couldn't agree less with the other callers. He, thus, entreated the government to "wake up and do something about this."
The conversation comes on the back of the announcement that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has initiated plans to adjust its tariffs to increase the cost of electricity in the coming weeks.
According to a Director in the Office of the Managing Director, Noble Dorwume, a request has been sent to the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) for consideration and approval.
It also comes on the back of spikes in the price of fuel since the beginning of this year.
Prices of petroleum products will from Wednesday, March 16 experience a significant surge as consumers are expected to pay GH¢11 per litre.
The Bulk Oil Distributors has blamed the situation on the volatility on the market as well as the rising cost of crude on the international market.
According to the Chief Executive, Senyo Hosi, the Cedi, which is depreciating compared to other major trading currencies, is also a cause of the rise in the price of fuel.
In an interview on Joy FM’s News Night, Monday, Senyo Hosi, however noted that “the Central Bank has been very proactive and cooperative with industry and we’ve been working on ways to help mitigate the impact on these key commodities.”
