In the run up to the 2016 general elections, the running mate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, highlighted a number of lofty promises, which wooed many Ghanaian electorates.
His popular refrain was that, the erstwhile Mahama administration was 'incompetent', thus had to be voted out. The NPP campaigned on this tangent, leading to a massive win in the elections.
With the party's victory, many Ghanaians believed that the country's economic fortunes will see a dramatic turn around.
However, after six years in office, the country is reeling under serious economic pressure, with unemployment, increase in fuel prices and other challenges strangling Ghanaians. Reports from JoyNews' Living Standard Series reveal that, hundreds of Ghanaians are feeling the pinch; leaving many in a state of hopelessness.
JoyNews' Editorial on Friday, March 18, therefore looked at some of the promises by Dr. Bawumia in relation to the current economic conditions in the country.
