Singer and songwriter, Afriyie Wutah, claims he attributed the mixing and mastering section of his controversial single, “Country Hot”, to Appietus on his Facebook wall.
Speaking with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, the singer said, “I gave you credit as the one who mixed and mastered the song. Check my Facebook page.”
His comment comes after the veteran music producer, Appietus, asked the ex-member of Wutah, whether he presented the accurate metadata to Charterhouse for the nomination of ‘Country Hot’ in the ‘Audio Engineer of the Year’.
The back and forth called for Appietus’ need to clear the air, since he is the original audio engineer for the song at issue.
In his response, he suggested that since Afriyie Wutah claimed he was the one who did all the work and demands recognition and plaudits for being an audio engineer, Charterhouse should not hesitate to grant him the wish, since he needed it badly.
“If Afriyie Wutah wants the award for "Country Hot" so bad, then he should go for it. They should give it to him. If he couldn't mention my name to Charterhouse that I mixed and mastered that song, no problem,” he said.
This ensued after renowned audio engineer, Wei Ye Oteng, insinuated that Afriyie Wutah did not merit a spot in the ‘Audio Engineer of the Year’ category, even though the singer presented his song, ‘Country Hot’, to VGMA and claimed to be the one who mixed and mastered it.
He added that Afriyie Wutah’s dishonesty does not only expose him, but the VGMA Board’s lack of due diligence and thorough research for their nomination list collation.
In order to deflate Oteng’s assertion, PRO of Charterhouse, Mr Robert Klah, revealed that Afriyie Wutah presented a document that suggested he was the original audio engineer behind the song, although Appietus deserved the credit for that specific role.
“The information stated by Afriyie Wutah was that, he was the producer of "Country Hot". We followed up with getting info about the Audio Engineer by asking him [Afriyie], and he claimed to be the Audio Engineer, even though it was Appietus,” he cleared.
The PRO also hinted that Afriyie Wutah is likely to be disqualified from the ‘Audio Engineer of the Year’ category for his failure to present the actual metadata for ‘Country Hot’.
The Board is yet to take a decision on the "AfroJam" singer.
Meanwhile, the PRO has leveraged on the issue at hand to admonish artistes to ensure sincerity and accuracy whenever they are filing for nomination for their works to be recognized and rewarded.
