The suspect in the Abesim murder has asked the District Court at Kaneshie to consider his football career and grant him bail.

Richard Appiah, 28, said the bail will enable him to go for training and play football again.

Speaking for the first time in court, the accused person said he is a footballer and cannot realise his dream should he be denied bail.

But since he appeared without counsel, the Magistrate, Ama Adomako Kwakye, urged him to acquire the services of a lawyer and go to the High Court and seek bail.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Lawrence Anane, told the court that the prosecution is still waiting for the Attorney-General’s advice.

He, therefore, pleaded with the court for a date.

However, the Magistrate was unhappy and asked why they took a long date without her consent.

The suspect, Appiah, is alleged to have gruesomely murdered two boys and kept some of their body parts in a fridge in his house.

Although the charges and the facts were read to him in open court on August 26, 2021, when he first appeared before the court, his plea was not taken.

Subsequently, some body parts and intestines, believed to be those of the victims, were allegedly retrieved on a farm.

The victims have since been buried.

The case has also been adjourned to April 28.
