The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree on the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, Joseph Siaw Agyepong.
According to the University, he merited the degree due to his distinguished contributions to environmental sanitation and higher education in Ghana and beyond.
He was also selected due to the excellent leadership he exhibits and his zeal to find innovative ways to identify solutions to sanitation challenges.
The Jospong CEO was decorated at the Second Session of the 6th UHAS Congregation on Saturday.
“I also want to thank the UHAS Council Members, my wife, Mrs Adelaide Agyepong, my children, management and staff of the Jospong Group of Companies and everyone who has invested in my life for me to come to this level,” he said, after receiving the honours.
He gifted the university a $100,000 grant to be channelled into waste management and sanitation research.
He detailed that waste management is broad hence the need to invest in research to be able to identify innovative mechanisms for dealing with waste.
“The spectrum of waste management is very broad, we have air pollution, solid waste, liquid waste plastic waste, and even in plastic we have categories. So you need a lot of research”, he said.

The university also conferred an honorary doctorate on the Director of its Institute of Research, Prof. Margaret Gyapong, for her selfless service to the country.
She currently received the ‘Most Outstanding Female Scientist 2020 Prize” from the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trial Partnership.
About 692 students were awarded degrees in various academic disciplines at the graduation ceremony.
