The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Tower Cooperation (ATC) Ghana, has encouraged Ghanaian parents to push their female children into the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) fields.
According to him, it is about time parents refrained from preventing the girl child from venturing into science and ICT.
Speaking at an event organised by the ATC towards the International Girls in ICT Day, Yahaya Yunusa stressed that parents should avoid such stereotypes which only affect the growth of girls.

The Communications and Digitalisation Ministry is already partnering with relevant agencies to train a number of young girls in ICT.
This is aimed at building their interest in the sector.
“Parents should move away from the preconception that the ladies are supposed to be in the kitchen, while the boys should be in front. These are archaic mentalities we need to move away from.

“So, parents should treat all their kids equally because every child has the potential to be whoever they want to be. We have ladies who have grown up to become astronomy engineers and that can also happen to ladies in Ghana,” Mr Yahaya Yunusa observed.
The International Girls in ICT Day is a day set aside to motivate young girls and empower them to consider careers in the growing field of ICT.

This year's celebration falls on Thursday, April 28.
