The Opposition New Patriotic Party has denied assertions that the party is broke.Collins Yaw Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the Finance Committee of the party contends the NPP has separate and several accounts from which the party draws funds for its activities and could therefore not be described as broke.News paper reports alleged the party’s coffers were dry following the defeat in last year’s general elections. And with speculations that parties in government receive financial patronage from the business community, it did not come as a surprise that the NPP is ‘broke’ in opposition. But in an interview with Citi News, Mr. Gyamfi admitted the party was facing some financial challenges but cannot be described as broke. He said these challenges would still pertain if the party had retained power.Mr Gyamfi chided critics who accused the party of organizing an opulent December congress which elected the Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.He said the GH ¢25,000 charged as filing fees for the 17 presidential candidates was not enough for the organisation of the congress, due the huge expenditure incurred.Mr Gyamfi dismissed claims that the party will be unable to organise its impending National Delegates Conference due to the paucity of funds. He however called on party supporters and all stake holders to contribute financially towards making the conference a success.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com
