CEO of 3Music Network, Sadiq Abdulai Abu has stated that the construction of the National Cathedral’s museum is not a component of tourism.
He opined on Saturday, June 25, 2022, that President Akufo-Addo has failed to honor a number of promises he made to the nation's tourism sector, but one. Sadiq Abdulai spoke on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, detailing, “if you look at the 21 promises they made toward the tourism sector, it’s been only one they were able to deliver on, and even with that there were certain problems regarding the execution of it because of lack of money”.
His argument stemmed from the assertion that tourists are usually drawn to sites based on their history. However, the National Cathedral has none. “People don’t necessarily visit places without a story or context. What would be the unique story that would compel people to come, after you build the museum?”, he quizzed
“When you go to Mecca for example there is a place called Zam Zam, where people go to fetch water because of a certain belief of the miracles inherent in the water because of the narrative behind it people are compelled to it”, he expatiated.
Sadiq Abdulai narrowed it down to the fact that Ghana has over 65 slave monuments that draw tourists to the nation. These historical monuments, Sadiq explained, have narratives that connect them to Ghana. He wondered what would be that unique story behind the erection of the National Cathedral. “What is the unique connection in the evolution of Christianity here that would compel people to come here [to see the National Cathedral].”
The 3Music CEO believes that it is good to create something as a reminder of what the church has been bringing to the country, instead of putting up an edifice that has no significant history.
