The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has asked Congress to be permitted to spend over GHC 109 million in 2022/23, per a document available to Joy Sports.
Congress will convene on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence ahead of the new football season scheduled to start on September 9, 2022.
The secretariat believes over GHC 100m will be enough for a successful running of football in the next football calendar.
This amount, however, is almost three times the revenue generated by the FA in the 2020/21 season, and its total expenditure for same period.
The football governing body generated over GHC 39.2 million in 2021, a chunk coming from FIFA, CAF, and government grants. FIFA grants totaled GHC 17,173,940, while that of CAF and the government provided a combined GHC 3,179,070 with the state assisting with GHC 1,470,000.
The FA made over GHC 12 million from its sponsorships, Startimes, MTN, UEFA, Melcom, ZAZ, Puma, Decathlon, Woodin, and Kasapreko. The premier league raised GHC 3,057,913, while the Division One league could generate a paltry GHC 136, 396. The FA Cup made GHC 1,345, 582 while the national teams secured the association GHC 4,459,632. Non-cash sponsors stood at GHC 3,486,125.
Women's football did not generate revenue for the GFA.
It appears the GFA is still reeling from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic as the association generated a paltry GHC 312,220 which is less than the GHC 354, 853 generated at the gates at the peak of the pandemic in 2020. The GFA made more money from fines, GHC 856,542 than it got from the patronage of the league.
Player transfer fees raked in GHC 580,529, while player registration secured in the coffers GHC 406,887. Video coverage and broadcasting rights generated GHC 18,762 and GHC 99,260 respectively.
Kit sponsor, Puma, paid 500,000 Euros.
The expenditure, honorarium, staff cost, consultancy, competitions, and monies paid to the referees and match commissioners were the highest.
The expenses for competition and events stood at GHC 13,015,312, with competition expenses and awards consuming GHC 4,933,103. Referees and match commissioners were paid GHC 3,614,996 while staff costs amounted to GHC 3,680,582. For the camera crew, a total of GHC 416,770 was spent.
Administrative governance expenditure totaled GHC 8,318,472, while football governance cost the FA GHC 17,292,627.
Honorarium to committees amounted to GHC 2,341,062 while COVID-19 support was GHC 7,805,303.
Surplus for the year amounted to GHC 258,353, which leaves the FA at an accumulated balance of GHC 14, 913, 846.
The Executive Council described the financial position of the association as "satisfactory" and added that it "presents fairly the financial standing, financial performance, and cash inflows of the entity."
Congress is expected to accept the financial position of the football governing body before approving the over GHC 109 million requested by the secretariat.
