Supreme Court Judge, Justice Jones Dotse has cautioned judges against conduct that creates the perception that justice delivery is meant to favour only one group of people.
His comments come in the wake of serious criticisms against the justice delivery system in the country.
The Minority in Parliament and some critics have tagged the Judiciary as partisan and discriminatory in favour of persons affiliated with the New Patriotic Party.
Speaking at the 19th Triennial conference of the Commonwealth Magistrate and Judges Association in Accra on Monday, Justice Dotse implored his colleagues to fairly and equitably deliver justice in the discharge of their duties.
“The assurance that we can have justice which will be protected from harm and we can go about our lawful business is what keeps all of us together. So our duty as Judges, magistrates and justice officials is to ensure that all citizens can have that assurance. Our jobs will mean nothing if only a few people can truly have justice if the skills are used in only one direction,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia explained how government is using digitalization to ensure fair and swift delivery of justice.
“Depriving even one citizen of justice is tantamount to pulling another tie from the delicate domino pack. Therefore, I believe that just like all other benefits that accrue to a citizen by mere virtue of birth, state actors must expend every resource available to ensure that justice is available to all.
“How for example, can a critical witness who is away from the jurisdiction for very valid reasons, provide the testimony necessary for the case to proceed…if there was a lesson from Covid-19 it was above all that all these [scenarios] are possible if we employ the right digital tools,” he noted.
