The North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the embattled Finance Minister cannot hide from the impending censure vote by the Minority Caucus.
Mr Ablakwa says there is no hiding place for Mr Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to him, the Minister can “illegally” delay the 2023 budget presentation for all he wants, but this will not save his job.
The outspoken legislator in a social media post on Friday, said that Mr Ofori-Atta’s previous budgets have not been any good to Ghanaians.
“Ken Ofori-Atta can choose to illegally delay the Budget presentation to Parliament for as long as he wishes but that won’t save him.
“In any case, all his previous 6 Budgets have brought doom and damnation.
“Budget or no Budget, we’re going ahead with the Censure Vote. #KenMustGo,” he said.
The Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has revealed that the current negotiation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) may delay the budget presentation expected by mid-November.
This new development is in contravention of the Public Financial Management Act.
However, as negotiations between the Finance Ministry and the Fund for a bailout continue, the deadline now appears improbable, per the Majority Leader.
The Suame MP who doubles as the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in a media engagements on Thursday, November 3, said a team from the IMF is expected in the country next week for further talks.
“But if you want to do a tidy work, you may be required to have some space to be able to do a tidy job. Because as you all know, these are not normal times,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has already admitted a motion of censure filed by Minority Members of Parliament to remove embattled Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to them, Mr. Ofori-Atta is incompetent and is to blame for the current economic woes of Ghanaians.
This, Mr Ablakwa has insisted that Mr Ofori-Atta cannot run away from.
