Ghana Free Zones Authority raked in $27 billion from exports as of 2020 since its operations, Chief Executive Officer, Michael Oquaye Jr has revealed.
Speaking at the media launch of the 3rd Annual Investment Week, 2022, Mr. Ocquaye Junior said the country’s free zones enclave has been contributing significantly to total exports.
“I am also happy to report that the cumulative exports from the Free Zones Enterprise since the programmes inception stood at $27 billion as of 2020."
Furthermore, he stated that the authority has licensed 39 new companies and expects these companies to inject a capital of $230 million with an estimated earnings of $529 million in the short to medium term.
"These 39 companies are expected to inject an estimated capital of about $230 million into the Gh aian economy”.
This brings the total number of active companies to 217, of which wholly Ghanaian companies make up 33% representing 72 companies.
The number of joint venture companies and wholly owned foreign companies stands at 71 and 74 representing 33% and 34% respectively of the total share of companies.
Ambassador Mike Oquaye further encouraged local companies to take advantage of the opportunities AfCTA presents to make a mark in the international market.
