The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 seized five brown Ghana Post branded boxes on suspicion of containing narcotic drugs at the Central Post office, in Accra.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs and International Relations Department, Nana Osei Nkwantabisa, he noted that “the boxes, which were all destined for the United Arab Emirates, were discovered to contain a total of 150 packets of coffee labelled "Café Naijar Classic”.
He added that each packet was found to contain 624 tablets, hence a total of 93,600 tablets with an estimated street value of $ 1.4 million.
According to Mr Osei Nkwantabisa, a field test was conducted on the tablets which proved positive for Amphetamine, a narcotic drug.
“Samples of the exhibits have been forwarded to the Ghana Standards Authority for analytical examination while investigations continue,” he stated.
As a result, Narcotics Control Commission urged the public to refrain from engaging in the trafficking of narcotic drugs.
This they explained is because trafficking narcotics is a criminal offence under Section 37 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 1019).
They also alerted the public to be cautious of the contents of parcels they receive during the festive season.
