Founder of Givers Foundation Ghana, Rudolph Asare is appealing to the government to help curb the hike in prices of goods to ensure that charity organisations are able to continue their work this Christmas.
“We won't be able to share food on the streets this year because things are not easy this year. Giving is not a business, but rather it is something you do out of your own will,” he said.
The group has made a number of donations to several communities in the past 3 years with the exception of this year, due to the current economic hardship.
According to him, most families especially in the deprived communities cannot afford three square meals and can’t even provide the basic needs.
He has described the situation as worrying and requires help from benevolent organizations and individuals.
"Not everyone is able to provide for their needs. This is why my group and I took it upon ourselves to help the needy 2 times in a year, June and December as well.
"We would be glad if we get support from organizations and individuals for December’s donation.
“We don't donate only food. We donate clothes, water, drinks, and even money. So you can also help with any of these," he said.
Millicent Yeboah, Secretary for Joy Maker's Foundation stressed on the economic crisis they are facing as a group.
"The members in the group donate to those in need in remote areas to be precise. In previous years, we paid money for the project. Every member paid an amount of GHC50.00.
"But this year, we decided to increase the amount to GHC100.00 early this year, but due to economic difficulties the members' contributions have been delayed.
"It’s now six months and counting, yet we have not been able to meet our goal. Majority of them are saying they don't have money," she said.
