Members of the University of Ghana Alumni Association, North America (UGAANA) have charged its alma mater to be careful it does not breach its own regulations and Ghana's laws in the recent campus violence case.
The Association in a press release says inasmuch as it condemns the actions of the students, the University while enforcing its stipulated law and striving to ensure peace, must not go overboard.
UGAANA said it "would like to see the judicious and proportional application of the country and the University's laws in the administration of justice."
On August 6, last year, police were deployed to the University campus following a clash between some students.

This was after an inter-hall fight ensued between the residents of the Commonwealth and John Mensah Sarbah halls resulting in injuries and damage to properties.

The University authorities said persons found culpable in the acts of violence on campus will be sanctioned appropriately.
Condemning the “needless acts of violence that have led to injuries and destruction of property,” it added that efforts were underway to identify the perpetrators.

Subsequently, the management suspended the Hall Master and Senior Tutor of the Commonwealth Hall for their inaction which they said caused the clash.

According to school authorities, the two did not exhibit sufficient willingness and ability to hold students of the hall accountable for their actions in the recent violent clashes.
