Joshua Clottey claims he could have made more money in boxing had it not been for a bad advice from his then trainer, Kwame Asante.
“I regret signing with that manager. I regret listening to the trainer[Kwame Asante]," the former welterweight title holder said in a Prime Take interview with Muftawu Nabila Abdulai.
"But it made me strong not to allow anyone to negotiate on my behalf, never, ever! because someone made a decision for me and it really hurts me.
"I was supposed to make more money," he noted.
"The Pacquaio fight for instance," he started the background story to how he lost "I was not happy about the Pacquiao fight because I had three years on my contract with my manager so even if I did well, the manager will still be there to take 33 percent so I decided to blow it up [lose deliberately].
“I even went to his office to negotiate for him to take 25%, so I take 8% from his percentage and I will be happy to fight, but he said no," he recalled.
Joshua Clottey and Manny Pacquiao fought in 2010 and the Ghanaian lost via unanimous decision.
