Ghanaian comedian, Derrick Kobina Bonney, known in showbiz as DKB, has broken silence on why he is usually not seen at most comedy specials organised by other comedians.
A lot of comedy enthusiats have expressed worry over why the stand-up comedian does not attend events by other comedians but these comedians feature on his shows.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM's Twitter Spaces conversation dubbed 'Joy Entertainment Unpacked' on Wednesday, March 9, 2023, DKB said he is usually not present at such programmes, especially when he is not billed to perform.
According to him, if he is not booked to be on stage, but is rather an invited just as a guest, he may decide not to attend when it coincides with his gig.
"I was not put on the bill, so whatever other engagements I have I could go and attend to it, but if you put me on the bill, I owe you a duty to show up," DKB noted.
"First of all, I don't take offence in somebody not putting me on their show or not. We can't all be on everybody's show. That is essentially the whole point. So if you didn't see me at the event, I also had other engagements, and since I am not on the bill, well, I am not expected to perform," he said.
He added that sometimes, when the event clashes with his gig, he even tries to pass by the event.
‘Joy Entertainment Unpacked’, also featured, Clemento Suarez, Lekzy DeComic, Lawyer Nti, Jacinta, and Lawyer Nti.
Hosted by Kwame Dadzie, the programme the series of conversations comes off every Wednesday at 8pm on Joy FM’s Twitter page.
