The police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Constable in the line of duty in the Western North Region.
The Constable died on Friday after he was allegedly shot by one of his senior colleagues at the Western North Regional Command when they were returning from an operation.
The victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Immediately after the incident occurred, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Akuffo Dampare dispatched a team to the Command to assess the situation and interact with the personnel.
The team was led by Commissioner of Police Director-General/Welfare, Habiba Twumasi Sarpong.
On Saturday morning, Dr Dampare dispatched another team to the Western North Region.
Management Board members led by Commissioner of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Director in charge of General Administration, visited the family of the deceased to formally notify them of his passing.
They commiserated with them and also assured them of a thorough investigation into the incident.
A police clinical psychologist has been assigned to the family to support them through this difficult time.
Another team of clinical psychologists has also been deployed to the Western Regional Police Command to offer psycho-social support to the personnel of the Command.
Meanwhile, the suspect is in custody as the investigation continues.
