The student body and staff of the Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P) College of Education in Amedzofe in the Ho West District of the Volta Region continue to suffer the brunt of infrastructure deficit of the teacher training institute.

The College which was established in 1946 with the motto ‘Education for Service', however, surmounted its infrastructure challenge to produce a significant number of teachers at the basic school level in the country. 

A staff flat, 10-seater modern sanitary facility, and two hostels to accommodate about 500 students are at various stages of completion on the campus. 

In spite of this, the Principal, Dr. Dickson Tsey, underscored the need for the provision of an auditorium for the college, to host major events which would attract a large number of people. 

Speaking at the 15th congregation, he lamented how the College is compelled to organise major events outdoors due to the lack of a befitting structure.

“It is disheartening to know that this College organises and holds its official events such as this [Congregation] in the open. This is sad and undeserving of a tertiary institution as huge as this College. 

I, therefore, want to use this opportunity to once again appeal to the Government and other benevolent organizations to help put up an Ultra-Modern Auditorium for the College. 

We have our site ready waiting for the day that the angelic manner will drop from heaven to have a sod cut for the commencement of the project”, he said. 

He also stressed the need for the construction of the access and internal road networks which is deteriorating by the minute. 

He said, the school was not in the position to raise seven hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵‎700,000) to construct the roads, hence appealed for external support. 

Dr. Tsey further indicated that administrative staff are working “in a very discomforting and challenging offices”, due to the limited office space on the old administration block constructed in the early days of establishing the College.

This he said had forced some staff to perch with their colleagues, hereby, affecting smooth administrative work. 

“The only administration block built in the centuries looks very much old and inadequate to accommodate the increasing number of administrative staff.

 I, therefore, plead for Government and other stakeholders' intervention as quickly as possible to help construct an ultra-modern administration for the staff”, he appealed. 

The Ho West District Chief Executive, Earnest Appau, assured of the government’s commitment to the development of the school. 

He said the government fulfilling its promises of providing a bus, solving the water challenges, and re-awarding an age-old hostel project are evidence of the government’s intention to propel growth of the E.P College of Education. 

174 students graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Primary and a Bachelor of Education in Junior High School. 

The congregation was unique as it witnessed the first graduation since degree program were introduced at the Colleges of Education, and the awarding of seven First-Class honors in about a decade.
