Former Bayern Munich defender, Sammy Kuffour, says Lothar Matthaus' decision to invest in Accra Lions shows there are a lot of talents in Ghana.
On Tuesday, May 23, there was an event in Accra to officially announce the former FIFA World Player of the Year as one of three new owners of the Ghana Premier League side, with the ex-player now boasting the majority stake in the club.
Speaking at an event at the German Ambassador's residence on Tuesday night, Kuffour, who played alongside Lothar, detailed the rationale behind the World Cup winner coming to Ghana.
"I feel blessed to know [Lothar Matthaus] as a person and also for him to come to Ghana," he said.
"There are so many opportunities that they could go to any other country [but] they chose Ghana. That tells you there is something here that we have to take care of."
Having secured majority shares in Accra Lions, Lothar promised that he is going to be on a regular visit to Ghana at least five times a year.
He also adds that he will be more concerned about the development and improvement of young talents that will come through the club rather than focus on just their performance in the league.
