Accra Lions boosted their chances of escaping relegation with a dominating 5-3 win over Aduana FC on Matchday 31 of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The home side came out roaring, putting on a ruthless first-half performance. Faris Tahiru opened the scoring in the 13th minute, turning in a well-placed freekick from Fuzy Taylor.
Lucky Nwafor followed with a brace in the 30th and 40th minutes, either side of a smart finish by Musa Hamzata in the 34th to end halftime 4-0 up.
In the second half, Salman Tahiru added a fifth in the 61st minute, heading home a beautifully delivered freekick from Lawrence Setordjie.
Aduana FC fought back in the final stages. Opoku Peprah scored twice in quick succession (80’, 86’) before Emmanuel Marfo added another in added time (92’) to make it 5-3, but the damage had already been done.
The result lifts Accra Lions to 13th on the table with 35 points, now three clear of the relegation zone. Aduana FC, meanwhile, drop to 11th with 41 points.
Up next, Accra Lions will face Hearts of Oak, while Aduana FC will look to bounce back against Legon Cities.
