The chief of Amedzofe and Senior Divisional Chief of the Avatime Traditional Area, Okusie Akyem Foli V, has been laid to rest.
A solemn final funeral rite was held for the revered traditional ruler at Amedzofe in the Ho West District of the Volta Region over the weekend.
The late Chief ruled the highest human settlement in West Africa for 55 years.
The Paramount Chief of the Avatime Traditional Area, Osie Adza Tekpor VII, described the deceased as a great leader who was committed to serving his people.
He said the late Okusie Akyem Foli V had a keen interest in the development of the area and brought his expertise to bear in times of need.
The Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, mourned with the bereaved and entreated the kingmakers of Amedzofe to ensure a peaceful transition in selecting a successor for the late traditional ruler.
The Chairman of the Amedzofe Development Association (ADA), Mac Bubuama, recounted his close relationship and collaboration with the revered traditional ruler concerning developing his kingdom.
“Regardless of some trivial criticism and disparities in opinions normally encountered by leaders, Okusie Akyem Foli V was focused on the establishment of a robust chieftaincy cabinet that collaborated with ADA leadership and various councils to promote the development of the community in the spirit of teamwork”, he said.
The final funeral rite ceremony was attended by thousands who paid their last respect to the great leader who had served his people faithfully and diligently.
In attendance was the District Chief Executive of Ho West, Ernest Apaw, government officials, politicians, traditional rulers among others.
