A collaboration between the Rotary Club of Ho and the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor, USA has brought great relief to rural dwellers in the Kpokuve enclave in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region.
It ended an age-old challenge - of relying on water from dugouts and streams - which had hindered the well-being of residents in four communities of the Kpokuve enclave.
The organisation provided merchandise bore holes in the four communities in the enclave, where residents relied on unwholesome water by using water sources polluted with the faecal matter of cattle.
A resident of Torkanu, Shallot Dumakor, lamented the water crisis becomes dire during the dry season, as the underprivileged residents relied on rain to salvage the water situation.

“We are thankful to Rotary for constructing the mechanized borehole for us. We will no longer use water with animals or travel outside the community to buy potable water”, she added.
The President of the Rotary Club of Ho, Simon Fafali Awumey, said the Club is focused on helping the underprivileged in their jurisdiction.
He said his outfit had executed 22 projects this year under the Club's seven areas of focus.
The projects include the provision of portable water, extension of eye care to residents, equipping of the Ho Teaching Hospital Optical Unit, construction of ICT facilities for schools and reproductive health campaigns among others.
