Twenty-one Senior High Schools in the Upper West Region are expected to face off for one of the six slots in the regional qualifiers of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NMSQ) championship.
The two-day competition will see the region’s top-placed schools slug it out in six different contests happening at the Upper West Regional Library.
Schools in the region have in the last few years not featured quite prominently in the national competition.
As arguably the torchbearer for the region, St. Francis Xavier SHS had to bow out of the 2022 championship at the quarter-final stage.

The two-time finalist lost to Kumasi High School, ending their quest to rewrite the school’s history.
As the only school from the Upper West Region seeded in the 2023 championship, six qualified schools will join the Seminarians to hoist the flag of the region higher at the national championship.
After making its first appearance in 2021 and losing out in the 2022 qualifiers, Wa SHS is hoping to redeem its image at the national tournament.
They are set to compete with serial qualifiers St. Ignatius of Loyola SHS, and one-time regional qualifiers Kaleo SHTS.
The much-anticipated contest on the first day of the qualifiers would feature all-time rivals Nandom SHS and St. Francis Girls of Asisi battling it out alongside Jirapa SHS and debutants, Loggu Community Day SHS.

In all, six contests will take place within the two-day period with a number of the schools qualifying to be at the center stage of the national championship and hopefully clinching the coveted title.
