While some consider it a mere expression of art, traditionalist Nana Adu Boafo Jnr. has asserted when an artiste appears on stage in a coffin, it usually has spiritual meanings.
Nana Adu Boafo Jnr. revealed on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM a number of acts by artistes that portray that they may have spiritual connections.
“When the artiste is performing and showing signs and symbols of spiritual organisations or spiritual symbols. When they are displaying Illuminati signs and displaying their colours and flags and also when they are shooting videos by the seaside wearing white cloths, that is when I would say there is spirituality in their work,” he told the host Kwame Dadzie.
According to Nana Adu Boafo, “coming on stage in a coffin is also spiritual. Because death is a transition from the physical world to the spiritual realm. You are alive, you are not dead and you are coming on stage to perform music for living beings in a ritual format is spiritual.”
Nana Adu-Boafo added when people drop from the skies or come from the underground during performances, there are usually spiritual implications.
That notwithstanding, the traditionalist who is also a spoken word artist indicated that some people actually use such acts to merely enact scenes that fit their storylines.
Some artistes that have performed in coffins are Ghanaian rapper Eno Barony, Nigerian artiste Portable, Ugandan musician Smokie Omutapata, Kaligraph Jones from Kenya, among others.
