The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has disclosed that a businessman in Sunyani, in the Bono Region, has been convicted for selling unregistered food supplements.
In a press release, the FDA stated that this conviction comes after an investigation, led by Senior Regulatory Officer, Mr Richard Kyeremeh Yeboah, revealed that Mr Emmanuel Osafo Nyantachi’s business was selling unregistered food supplements.
They indicated that Mr Nyantachi, who owns Healthy Living and Organic Lifestyle Consult, was served numerous warnings by the Bono FDA against selling his products without the FDA’s approval.
However, after his failure to suspend the production, sale, and distribution of the unregistered food supplements, and to take the necessary steps to register them, the FDA said they had to take further regulatory action.
“The FDA's determination to enforce its regulations was underscored by the Sunyani Circuit Court's ruling on Wednesday, 5th July 2023, imposing a fine of GHC90,000.00 (equivalent to 7,500 penalty units) or a 24-month prison sentence with hard labour,” parts of the statement read.
The FDA noted that it is committed to ensuring that their relations are enforced and respected by all.
“The Sunyani Circuit Court's verdict should send a strong message to others who flout FDA’s regulations and be assured that the FDA is determined to crack down on defaulters and protect the public from potentially harmful products.”
