Executive Director and Head of Polling at Global Info Analytics, Dr. Musah Dankwah, says Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen could emerge as a kingmaker in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections should he decide to run as an independent candidate.
While the former aspiring NPP presidential candidate has made no indication as to whether or not he will break away from the party to run for president, there has been speculation the option is being considered in the Alan camp.
Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story, Dr. Darkwah noted that should that happen Alan’s solo participation in the election could trigger a run-off.
He explained that, “If you have a formidable person like Alan going as independent, and he’s able to win more of the floating voters than currently he does, and is able to pull a good number from NDC, no doubt there will be run-off.”
According to him, in the event of a run-off, Alan may choose to side with the opposition NDC as the ruling NPP does not enjoy significant goodwill from Ghanaians.
“And if there’s a run-off then he becomes the kingmaker, and probably would enter into some sort of deal either with the current administration or the NDC. But I can’t see him entering a deal with the current administration because the mood of the nation presently is against the current administration,” he said.
Alan Kyerematen withdrew from the NPP presidential primaries slated for November 4 citing electoral irregularities, unfair treatment and bias.
While he has not indicated his next move, he said he will be consulting with family and team members and would announce his role in Ghana’s politics going forward as soon as possible.
