Ashanti Regional U-17 were crowned champions of the KGL Foundation inter-regional U-17 Colts Championship after beating Brong Ahafo U-17 7-6 on penalties in a thrilling final in Kumasi on Sunday.
The game which ended 2-2 was ultimately decided on penalty shootouts. Buoyed by the home fans, Ashanti Region twice took the lead but Brong Ahafo fought back gallantly to equalize – as the game went into shootouts.
The Ashanti region U-17 scored 7 of the kicks to win the contest after the Brong Ahafo team missed one of their kicks.
Goalkeeper Emmanuel Kwadwoza from Brong Ahafo was adjudged the best goalkeeper in the tournament following his near-perfect performance in the competition.
In the third-place play-off – Greater Accra U-17 defeated Eastern Region U-17 3-1 to win the Bronze medal.
