The Jetse Developmental Foundation has voiced concerns over the recent clash between Toflokpo residents in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region and Electrochem Ghana Limited.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, November 7, the Foundation described the incident as unfortunate.
The foundation called upon the police to take appropriate steps to restore harmony in the area and avert any further escalation of tensions.
“On behalf of Jetse Abram Kabu Akuaku III, the Jetse Developmental Foundation wishes to condemn the recent happenings in Toflokpo and its surrounding areas on the 6th of November 2023.”
“It is an unfortunate incident to lose a precious life in such an attack. The Foundation wishes to call on all to put politics aside and give due diligence to the laws of Ghana, as it collaborates with the security forces and key stakeholders to find lasting solutions to our challenges in Ada,” the statement said.
A feud ensued on Monday, November 6, between officials of Electrochem Ghana Limited and residents of Toflokpo when some staff of the company went to the area to repair some damaged dykes used in the evaporation and harvesting of salt.
Residents of the town accused Electrochem of taking away their livelihood and harassing them with land guards.
This scuffle led to the death of one person which was blamed on Electrochem Ghana Limited.
However, Electrochem Ghana has denied these allegations. The company’s operations manager, Nene Odeopeor Siada III, said that the company does not employ land guards and that the police were present on the day of the clash to protect its equipment and personnel.
