The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has criticized the 2024 budget statement presented by the government.
Mr Gyamfi expressed his disappointment, stating that the budget lacks hope for Ghanaians and does not effectively address the prevailing hardships in the country.
In a Facebook post, he highlighted that since the Akufo-Addo administration took office in 2017, none of its budgets has adequately met the demands of the citizenry.
“The 2024 budget failed to address the economic bankruptcy and excruciating hardships Ghanaians are reeling under, owing to reckless mismanagement by the Bawumia-led Economic Management Team.”
“This budget offers no hope whatsoever for the teeming unemployed youth and the ordinary man on the street whose economy is his pocket.”
“From “Asempa” budget in 2017 to “Adwumapa” budget in 2018 to “Mpuntuo” budget in 2019 to “Nkosuo” budget in 2020 to “Obatanpa” budget in 2021 to “Agyenkwa” budget in 2022 to “Nkabom” budget in 2023 to “Nkunim” budget in 2024; the living conditions of Ghanaians have continued to worsen year after year,’ he posted.
The NDC spokesperson encouraged Ghanaians to brace themselves for heightened hardships.
“Today, our beloved country finds herself in a self-inflicted debt crisis, with a high unemployment rate of 14%, an unbearable inflation rate of 35.2% and a crippling lending rate of average 36%,” he added.
