Head Pastor of the Church of the Lord Brotherhooda at Goaso in the Ahafo Region has appealed to the media to exercise caution in their reportage to ensure peaceful general elections.
In his plea, Bishop Kobina Bonnet emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, citing instances where other countries faced turmoil due to media coverage.
He urged journalists to adhere to ethical standards, emphasizing the crucial role the media plays in promoting a violence-free atmosphere during this year's general elections.
During an interview with Adom News, Bishop Bonnet stressed that journalists must prioritize factual reporting as the nation approaches a critical phase of political decision-making.
He expressed the belief that responsible media practices will contribute significantly to a peaceful electoral process.
“We are nothing without the media…many countries that have suffered have been due to media reportage. I am urging that you [the media] be careful with the way you report issues.
“If there is chaos here, we have nowhere to go. This is the only place we have. So please be careful.”
Bishop Kobina Bonnet advised the youth to avoid being used by politicians for violence during this year's general elections.
“For the youth, be careful so no one comes to ignite you to do what you don’t have to do. Remember the person leading you to do this does not have his or her there.
“If someone comes to lead you on and you are punished, you destroy your life. So to the youth, no one should be involved in these things”.
