Legal practitioner, Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo says the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) must be proactive in investigating the former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah’s case.
According to him, since the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially handed over the case to EOCO because it suspected money laundering schemes in its investigation, EOCO must quickly step into the matter.
He explained that any delay from EOCO would ruin investigations into the matter as the assets might either go missing or become untraceable.
Speaking on the Pulse on JoyNews on January 25, 2024, he said “Any delay on the part of EOCO to go to court to get a freezing order will defeat the purpose of fighting corruption in this country.”
Mr Addo's comments follow an announcement by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng that the former Sanitation Minister’s case falls out of his jurisdiction and will better be handled by EOCO because of suspicions of money laundering.
He stressed that by now the EOCO should have been heading to court to freeze the assets because “If those assets are released to the suspect and they get missing, you are wasting your time. Then our fight against corruption is useless.”
