Equatorial Guinea forward, Emilio Nsue, has been crowned the Golden Boot Award winner at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
This was after his five goals from four games were not bettered by any player in the tournament.
The 34-year-old, who plays as a right-back for Intercity in the third-tier of Spain, scored all five goals in two games.
Nsue netted a hat-trick against Guinea-Bissau in Equatorial Guinea’s second group game before bagging a brace in the Nzalang Nacional’s famous 4-0 win over Côte d’Ivoire in their final group game.
However, in the round of 16 match against Guinea, he missed a crucial penalty before Mohamed Bayo scored the winner at the death to kick them out of the competition.
Emilio Nsue was present at the closing ceremony to receive his Golden Boot award for emerging as the top scorer of the tournament.
Côte d’Ivoire mounted an excellent come-from-behind 2-1 win over favourites Nigeria to win the title at the Alhassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday.
