The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has urged the government to interfere in the running of Ghana's football to make it better even if it warrants a ban from FIFA.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been in tatters since the institution was taken over by the Kurt-Okraku-led administration.
Since his election into office, the Black Stars have played three major competitions including two Africa Cup of Nations and one World Cup while the only success with the junior national teams has been the Black Satellites AFCON win in 2021.
The depletion of the sport led to a demonstration on the streets of Accra on Wednesday, February 14, to petition leaders of the country.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Annoh-Dompreh, who has been critical of Ghana's football in the past, called on the government to get involved in restoring Ghana to where it deserves.
"We must be humble enough to accept there is something wrong with the running of our senior national team, the Black Stars," said the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri. "There is something definitely wrong with them.
"I hear all the statements about reforms...It cannot just be any reform at all. I agree there should be a reform but we must be specific on what we want to do.
"Even if we have to interfere to attract the sanction of FIFA...if that is what we should come to, we must do it."
As part of the demonstration, the conveners of ‘SaveGhanaFootball’ presented a 15-point petition to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
The petition was handed following a march that began earlier in the day at the Obra Spot on Kwame Nkrumah Circle and finished at Black Star Square.
