A Non-Governmental Organisation, Kokrokoo Charities has donated an incubator to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta Region.

This brings to three the number of incubators provided to the hospital and the 55th procured and gifted to health facilities across the country by the organization.

It aims to strengthen the machinery capacity of the unit which provides special care to ensure the survival of premature babies.

Currently, the number of incubators at the facility is 11. According to the hospital’s management, about 300 babies are admitted to the NICU annually.

Some other medical consumables donated to the unit included sanitary towels, tissues, overcoats, theatre clogs, sheets, and a refrigerator.

Founder of Kokrokoo Charities and host of Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show, Kwami Sefa Kayi explained that $10,000 was raised by friends of Villandro Palms in Ho and Teddies Irish Pub in East Legon, Accra, to procure the items for the unit.

He said his organization aims at procuring and donating 100 incubators to health facilities across the country to enhance maternal and child healthcare delivery by ensuring premature babies receive the best care to survive.

He appreciated the financial, spiritual, and logistical support which drives the organization towards achieving its objective.

“We are proud of what we have done. We are happy that we, through kind donations from
companies, individuals, families, and friends, are doing this project. So 55 down, 45 to go, we agreed to donate 100 incubators. It won’t be easy but by God’s grace, we are on it”, he said.

The Head of Child Health Sub BMC of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Bright Richard Danyo said the incubator was significant in ensuring the survival of preterm babies admitted at the unit.

“That is why this donation is a very important one for us. It adds to the stock of incubators that we have, and it is going to help us in offering better service delivery for our patients”, he said.

He lauded Kokrokoo Charities for the continuous support of the NICU; adding that their generosity has led to babies weighing below 0.8 kg surviving as compared to previous years.

“Once again thanks to Kokrokoo Charities. We are extremely grateful”, he said.
