The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stressed the need for the party to address loopholes in the party's constitution during the forthcoming congress.Mr Samuel Cudjoe, the Regional Secretary, told the Times, in an interview that focus during the congress should be on the expan¬sion of the Electoral College to allow substantial members to vote instead of the current system where a few members were allowed to vote for national offices. While the NPP is pursuing an agenda of coming back to power, it behoved on the leadership to allow enough members to decide on who they thought is capable of leading the party to the dream land, he ex¬plained.Mr Cudjoe contended that if the proposed expansion was endorsed at the congress, party members at the constituency level could take part in electoral processes which would be a good thing for the party. He called on the rank and file of the party to do away with factional¬ism and come together to fight a common cause. The Regional Secretary also intimated that the expansion of the Electoral college could bring to an end the prob¬lem of manipulation with money by aspirants for higher officers.“To a large extent we will be confi¬dent that whoever emerges as leader of the party, represents the true choice of the majority," Mr Cudjoe stated.Mr Cudjoe also admonished the members to bury their differences and mobilise resources to strengthen the party at all levels to ensure victory.Source: Ghanaian Times
