There is brewing tension in Bawku, Upper East Region, following a clash between officers of the prison service and some military personnel.
The clash resulted in a gunshot injury to an officer of the Prisons Service Wednesday afternoon.
Details of the cause of the clash are still sketchy; however, Joynews sources in Bawku indicate that the military officers were angered after the prison officers protected some civilians who were being pursued by them.
The two civilians were said to have been a nuisance at a function at the Bawku Chief’s palace, and the military wanted to “discipline” them, but they escaped to the camp of prison officers.
The military, sources say, upon arrival, were met by prison officers. Upon noticing that they were outnumbered, the military retreated and returned to the prison officers' quarters with reinforcements.
The clash resulted in a firearm being fired, causing the injury of a prison officer.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces say they have taken note of the video and are currently conducting internal investigations into the matter.
