A tragic incident unfolded at the Kumasi Abrepo Junction traffic light on Friday, May 17, claiming the life of a community police officer in her mid-20s who was on duty at the time.
According to eyewitness reports, the victim, known only as Tina, was with another police officer, directing traffic due to a malfunction of the traffic lights.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., a private car experienced brake failure, causing it to lose control and collide with five individuals in the vicinity.
“The officer was the first to be struck. She got trapped under a bus but was declared dead after a rescue mission”, an eyewitness recounted.
Among the injured was a medicine seller, who is currently in critical condition, along with three others who sustained injuries during the collision.
Upon investigation, police discovered bloodstains at various locations within the scene, prompting the marking of key areas and the capturing of photographs to aid in the ongoing inquiry.
The vehicle involved in the accident, bearing registration number GS 9494-21, has been seized by authorities, with the driver detained for questioning as part of the investigative process.
