The Forestry Commission Training Centre in the Ashanti Region is taking advantage of the "Green Ghana Day" to monitor trees planted in previous exercises.
This involves the replanting of the trees that failed to survive after being planted last year.

Also, the growth rate of surviving trees will be monitored and offered the needed support.
Director of the FCTC, Dr. Andrew Osei Okrah reveals the monitoring exercise will help strategize for future tree planting projects.

"As supervisors, on an occasion like this, we will take advantage to go round and see what was done last year. If there are areas to patch up or beat up we will do so", he explained.
Dr. Okrah further emphasized, "our stakeholders have been given the necessary expertise to make sure they nurture the trees being planted".

This year, the Ashanti Region is expected to plant 2.5 million seedlings. The FCTC is spearheading the planting of 22,500 seedlings in the Ejisu Municipality alone.
The FCTC together with the Municipal Assembly are partnering traditional authority and basic schools to achieve the set target.

At the commemorative ceremony, pupils from selected schools in the Municipality were trained on tree planting and nurturing.
Through drama and poetry recital, community members were also educated on the need to guide against indiscriminate felling of trees.

Traditional authorities present at the event pledged support for the tree planting initiative.
