MTN Ghana has donated 10,000 Ghana cedis, hampers and other souvenirs to the Edina Traditional Council in the Central Region to contribute to this year’s Bakatue Festival.
The chiefs and people of Elmina celebrate the Bakatue Festival on the first Tuesday in July every year. The festival is used to mark the beginning of the fishing season in Elmina.
David Woasey, the Central and Western Regional Area Sales Manager for MTN Ghana, donated on MTN's behalf towards the Bakatue Festival. He emphasised the gesture was part of the company's initiative to promote African heritage.
According to him, the donation was also a way of showing gratitude to the Chiefs and people of Elmina for their support over the years.

"Your continuous support for our brand has helped immensely make MTN the network of choice and leader in the telecommunications industry today,” he said.
He added that MTN would set up in the various communities in the traditional area to promote MTN’s products and services.
“We would also ensure that there is good customer experience in terms of our service delivery and enhance the internet performance as well”.
According to him, MTN decided to join the chiefs and people to reaffirm their relationship and lend their continuous support to the people of Elmina.

“We affirm our unflinching support to Nananom [chiefs] and the people of Elimina on your roadmap to a progressive society. We will provide a distinct customer experience during the celebration, and will set up centres to provide customers with an enhanced customer experience while they celebrate”.
The Paramount Chief of the Edina traditional area, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI thanked MTN for their support and promised to partner with the company to make giant strides in the country's development.
As the President of Edina Traditional Council, I am always with MTN, I continue to advertise for MTN and as such a number of the fishermen and fishmongers use MTN”, he said
