The National Coordinator of the Non-communicable Diseases (NCD) Alliance, Labrah Musah, has called for a review of the school curriculum to include healthy living habits.
Speaking on the JoyNews 'National Dialogue on "NCD - The Silent Killer", Mr Musah emphasised that teaching healthy habits can help prevent or reduce NCDs.
He argued that integrating healthy habits into the curriculum would educate children about nutritious foods, promoting better growth.
"We need to review the school curriculum to ensure that it has more activities that would make the children grow healthy," he said.
Mr Musah also called for policies to regulate feeding in schools and suggested extending the school feeding programme to private schools.
He pointed out that children in private schools are at risk of obesity due to a lack of regulation at that level.
He urged the Ministry of Health to implement policies regulating the school environment, noting that children spend a significant amount of time in schools.
"You go to some schools and it is the heads that are selling junk foods, and you can't do much about it," Mr Musah explained.
