On Saturday, July 20 edition of JoyNews' Newsfile will bring you in-depth analysis and expert commentary on the week's most topical issues - siren heralding and speed limit-free MPs and Ministers; is it good that the IGP has a new deputy; plus State Capture in Ghana, true or false?
First on the agenda, Newsfile will examine the fallout from the botched siren-speed L.I. The Transport Minister laid an L.I. that would grant Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ministers of State privileges typically reserved for emergency and specialised vehicles.
However, the L.I. faced opposition from the public and the Minority in Parliament, who issued a press statement urging the Transport Minister to withdraw the L.I. before it matured in 21 days.
The L.I. was subsequently withdrawn after a public backlash. It later emerged that proposal had come from the minority-led Parliamentary Committee.
Next on the menu is the appointment of the new Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of Operations, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno. Although many have agreed that he is the right person for the job, they have however, questioned the timing of the appointment.
Newsfile will discuss the expectations, the controversies, and what the appointment means for law enforcement and security in Ghana.
Lastly, the news analysis programme will dissect the heated debate on State Capture between North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa who makes the allegations and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor. What are the key points of contention, and what does the debate reveal about governance and accountability in the country?
Join the comprehensive analysis and expert insights on these pivotal topics, only on Newsfile.
Newsfile will be aired live on the JoyNews channel on digital satellite channels 421 on DSTV and 144 on GoTV. It will also be streamed on JoyNews’ Facebook or YouTube channels from 9am to noon.
Viewers can also follow the discussions by tuning into Joy 99.7 FM or Luv 99.5 FM on the radio or stream the discussion live on either Google or Apple Podcasts.
