Academic City University College recently held a panel discussion on the roles of Data Science and Cyber Security, with a call for effective collaboration between industry and academia to address the profound impact these fields are having on the future of work.

The event, which formed part of the open day for the university's new Master’s programmes in Data Science and Analytics and Cyber Security, brought together diverse industry players and experts in these fields.

It underscored the significance of Data Science, Analytics, and Cyber Security in the modern work environment and highlighted Academic City’s innovative approach to higher education.

The panel discussion featured representatives including ASP Listowell Vigbedor from the Ghana Police Service; David Gowu, Executive Director of the Institute of ICT Professionals; Eric Mensah, Financial Crimes and AML Lead at E-Crime Bureau; Marvin Nii Adom Armah, Business Development and Account Manager at Farmerline; and Desmond Koney, CEO of Complete Farmer.

They shared their perspectives on how data science and cybersecurity are transforming and reshaping business operations.

The discussion highlighted the growing demand for data-driven solutions and robust cybersecurity measures across various sectors, emphasising the importance of equipping the next generation of professionals with the necessary skills to thrive in this dynamic environment.

In addition, the panel discussed the challenges that the country is currently facing in terms of adapting to new technologies.

They also put forward some suggestions on how to overcome these challenges.

Speaking at the session, Prof. Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City, remarked, “This conversation is vital as we navigate the future of work.

Industry and academia collaboration is necessary to inform government decisions with the latest research and industry trends.

He continued, "We designed our Master's programs in Data Science and Cyber Security with this in mind, integrating live projects and industry partnerships to provide students with hands-on experience."

The Academic City Master's programmes in Cybersecurity and Data Science and Analytics are designed to equip graduates with advanced expertise, fostering critical analysis and practical skills to combat evolving digital threats and the application of data science techniques for problem-solving and decision-making in real-world scenarios.
