President Akufo-Addo and Chinese President Xi Jinping have announced the elevation of China-Ghana relations to a strategic partnership.
The announcement was made during a meeting between the two leaders on Thursday in Beijing, where President Akufo-Addo is attending the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
President Xi expressed China's willingness to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with Ghana and to continue providing assistance to the country.
He reiterated China’s commitment to expanding cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, fisheries, energy, mineral resources, and infrastructure.
President Xi also called on Ghana to continue supporting Chinese enterprises and citizens operating within its borders.
In addition ,he reaffirmed China’s support for Ghana’s role as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2024-2026 term. He stressed the importance of enhancing strategic coordination between the two nations on both international and regional issues.
The meeting shows the growing significance of China-Ghana relations, with both countries poised to deepen their cooperation across various sectors in the years to come.
President Akufo-Addo's visit to China and participation in the FOCAC summit is expected to further solidify the partnership between the two nations as they seek to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties.
