In a significant move aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector and address the issue of food security, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has donated 100,000 agric starter packs to the Youth Employment Agency.
The contribution is designed to support young entrepreneurs who are venturing into agriculture, providing them with essential resources to kickstart their farming ventures.
The one hundred thousand starter packs donated by the ministry is aimed at roping in more young people under the Planting for Food and Jobs phase II.
Some of the items included spraying machines, cutlasses, wellington boots and farm coats.
Speaking to the media, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong said “In October last year, we launched the youth in agriculture programme with the Youth Employment Agency, in that program, we pledged to support young people with farmlands in their community by liaising with their Chiefs to get lands for them to start their agricultural production.”
“We also promised to support them with some machineries, so we are here to present to the Youth Employment Agency and young people one hundred thousand starter packs including cutlasses, spraying machines and other equipment”, he said.
The Minister explained that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to encourage youth participation in agriculture, an area that is crucial for the nation's economic stability and food security.
The Youth Employment Agency described the gesture as timely and would contribute great to the total agricultural production of the country.
The initiative is expected to provide a substantial boost to the agricultural sector by empowering youth to engage in farming, an industry that has historically been dominated by older generations. The move aligns with the government's ongoing efforts to modernize agriculture, create job opportunities, and improve the overall sustainability of the sector.
The Youth Employment Agency will oversee the distribution process and provide additional support and training to the beneficiaries, ensuring that the starter packs are used effectively and that the young farmers receive the guidance they need to succeed.
This donation the Ministry said marks a significant step towards achieving the goal of fostering a vibrant and innovative agricultural sector, with the potential to transform the industry and enhance national food security for years to come.
