Zenith Bank, a leading financial institution in Ghana, organized a health walk to promote healthy living among its staff and customers as part of its 19th-anniversary celebration.
The event organised under the theme, " Beyond Boundaries: 19 Years of Financial Innovation and Excellence” brought together board members, management, staff, customers, and stakeholders of the bank.
Participants of the 19th Anniversary 8Km health walk began the walk from the Bank’s head office through to the World Trade Centre, Accra Financial Centre, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and back, completing the route in a little over two hours.
In an interview with the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Ghana, Henry Onwuzurigbo said, "Health is wealth. In a world where lots of us do sedentary work and barely exercise, it is important that we engage in some form of activity that would keep the blood pumping."
He added that, prior to the walk, the elevators in the head office of the Bank were shut down for a couple of hours each day for a one-week period to prepare staff of the Bank for the walk.
Mr. Onwuzurigbo made mention of some CSR initiatives being undertaken by the Bank which included educational scholarships given to poor but needy students in basic, high school and tertiary schools in the country, some of whom have completed their tertiary training and are Doctors, Engineers etc.
In his speech read at the event, Mr. Onwuzurigbo expressed his utmost appreciation to customers, staff, stakeholders and the media for their immense support over the 19-year period the bank has operated in the Ghanaian banking industry and promised to continue serving in their best interests with innovative banking products and services.
Some dignitaries who participated in the health walk included the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ibok-Ete Ibas, some of the Bank’s board members including its Chair, Mrs. Freda Yahan Duplan.
The event organized by Zenith Bank annually is expected to be bigger next year as the Bank prepares to mark its 20th anniversary.
