It is another day of a mild downpour in Accra, and Ghana’s capital is yet again flooded, with drains overflowing with plastic waste.
At the Darkuman Junction suburb, Myjoyonline ace photojournalist David Andoh witnessed the harrowing spectacle of plastics of all shapes and sizes - plastic bottles, flip-flops, empty packs, black polythene bags, and coloured bags - streaming across drains, headed surely for the beaches.

In many instances, the floods abandon this plastic waste on the streets, making the roads both unsightly and hazardous to trek.
In one particular instance, David captures a man using a shovel to push even more plastic waste onto the streets while other residents look on.

About an hour after the rain, the streets were completely drained of the water, leaving only plastic waste behind.
